Punch Down Tool Kit for Ethernet with 110 Blade Type
Category: krone punch down tool
A punch down tool, also known as a punchdown tool or a krone tool, is commonly used by telecommunication and network technicians. This small hand tool is utilized for inserting wire into insulation-displacement connectors on punch down blocks, patch panels, keystone modules, and surface mount boxes, also referred to as biscuit jacks.
The name "punch down" stems from the action of punching a wire into its designated place with an impact. The tool consists of a handle, a spring mechanism, and a removable slotted blade. When the punch down tool is used to connect a wire, the blade trims off any excess wire.
To utilize the punch down tool, a wire is pre-positioned into a slotted post on a punch block. Subsequently, the punch down tool is pressed down on top of the wire, over the post. Upon reaching the required pressure, an internal spring is triggered, and the blade pushes the wire into the slot. Simultaneously, the blade slices through the insulation, securing the wire. It is important to note that the blade does not directly cut through the wire insulation to establish contact. Instead, the sharp edges of the slot in the contact post itself perform the insulation-cutting action.
Furthermore, the punch down tool's blade is commonly used to eliminate any excess wire during the connection process. This is achieved by trapping the wire against the plastic punch block using the sharp edge of the tool blade.
